Walk the 'Long Journey' through Andalucia
Walks Worldwide has just announced the addition of a new trip entitled 'Along the GR7' in Andalucia, in the Sierra Nevada region of Spain, to its growing portfolio of trips across the globe.
The famous GR trail ('Gran Recorrido' - meaning Long Journey) winds along the flanks of Europe’s second highest Mountain range, and the itinerary for the self-guided trip allows for plenty of time to explore along the way.
The holiday has been graded as B (moderate) with hikes of between 5-7 hours per day including some steep ascents and descents.
The foothills of the Sierra Nevada afford delightful walking opportunities through open countryside, woods of pine, oak and chestnut, along with colourful fruit orchards and distinctive mountain villages with their iconic whitewashed, stone houses.
The GR7 commences in Lanjaron and stops along the route include Soportujar, Capileira, Pitrez and Trevelez. Accommodation is in small, charming hotels in nearby towns and, whilst walking, the baggage is transferred ahead to the next overnight stop.
The final section of the walk, which is mostly downhill (300m ascent, 780m descent), is from Trevelez to Cadiar with accommodation in a charming hotel with an excellent restaurant and a formidable wine list. Walks Worldwide also offers the option of staying in Grenada for a night or two at the end of the trip.
The price of the holiday is from £655 pp (two sharing) which includes transfers to and from Grenada airport, 7 nights’ B&B, baggage transfers, route notes and maps. Walks Worldwide can also book flights on request.
