An iconic new homes development nearing completion in Gants Hill, Essex, has been shortlisted for a prestigious award by readers of First Time Buyer magazine.

Images, George Wimpey’s stunning apartments development, is widely regarded as one of the most complex and exciting residential construction projects currently underway in the UK.

The stylish haven for city commuters caught the eye of the First Time Buyer readers’ panel because it is providing a total of 160 one and two-bedroom apartment-style homes – including a significant proportion through the Homes and Communities Agency’s First Time Buyers Initiative and additional apartments available through the local housing association, Genesis Housing Group.

But it is the wow-factor of the scheme that gives George Wimpey East London a chance of winning the Architectural Design Award category – and has already turned Images into an awe-inspiring local landmark.

Michael O’Leary, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey East London, says: “Images has created a truly iconic replacement to the landmark Odeon Cinema on the Gants Hill roundabout, using materials such as glass and zinc to offer a superb ‘Docklands feel’.

“It has been thoughtfully designed with real people and real lifestyles in mind, and the dynamic yet pragmatic architectural design caters for modern, 21st century London living.

“We feel that Images not only offers first-time buyers a high-flying place which they can be proud to call home, but also sits comfortably within the established neighbourhood of Gants Hill.”

Just 8 of the 160 apartments at Images remain for sale, including a one-bedroom home from only £159,995 and two-bedroom designs with an en-suite master bedroom in addition to a main bathroom, from just £199,995.

Selected apartments also boast balconies enjoying panoramic views over city landmarks, including the London Eye, the Gherkin and the O2 Arena, while the overall scheme features a collection of delightful communal areas, including a shimmering glass rotunda entrance tower, and an impressive plaza and central podium with paved areas, seating, lawns and landscaped shrub beds.

Gants Hill itself is home to a range of stores, cafes, restaurants and bars, while the new homes are a short stroll from Gants Hill Underground station, and only five stops from Stratford, ensuring new residents are perfectly placed for Docklands, The City and for the 2012 Games.

Shortlisted First Time Buyer Readers’ Award nominees will be judged by an expert panel, which includes Anne Ashworth from The Times Bricks & Mortar, Tommy Walsh, Marcus Wilshire, Janet Crome and First Time Buyer editor Sarah Garrett.

The winners and highly commended candidates are to be announced by Phil Spencer from Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location at a special ceremony being held in the Landmark Hotel, London, on Thursday 22nd April.

Further information on the final homes at Images is available by visiting the development’s Sales Centre, located off Perth Road, Gants Hill and open Thursday to Monday between 10am and 6pm.
