The Latvian national airline airBaltic has started painting European Union flags on its aircraft following a support vote for the move among the airline's fans in social media.

airBaltic will display the EU flag on aircraft flying this summer on 100 routes in Europe, Russia, CIS and the Middle East.

Tero Taskila, Chief Commercial Officer of airBaltic: "airBaltic is the most popular airline in the European Union by social media fans. Tens of thousands of fans follow our activities on Twitter and Facebook and make valuable suggestions. Like in many occasions before, we took this advice from our friends, and started painting the EU flags next to the Latvian ones on the planes."

airBaltic serves 80 destinations from its home base at Riga, Latvia. From every one of these, airBaltic offers convenient connections via North Hub Riga to its network spanning Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, CIS and the Middle East.
