Stamp duty scrappage benefits Peterborough couple

Less than 24 hours after the Chancellor’s budget announcement of the Stamp Duty exemption – first time buyers Nicola French and Dan Church were reaping the benefits at their new home in Peterborough.
The saving of £1,200 on their two-bedroom Stamford home came as a pleasant surprise to the couple, who were delivered news of the exemption by the sales advisor when they collected the keys to their new home.
Nursery nurse Nicola said: “We hadn’t seen any of the budget coverage on television, and to be told on the day we moved in that we were saving over £1,000 was an extra bonus.”
The couple chose their new home at the Burghfield Place development in Gunthorpe because of the many boxes it ticks.
Nicola (27) added: “It’s in a lovely location, close to the city centre and also close to our respective places of work. I work in Werrington and Dan works in Fengate.”
Word of mouth originally guided them to the development last summer. Diary factory worker Dan (24) added: “We were both living with parents at the time and it was just what we were looking for. We have only been in the house for a few days but are already really enjoying having our own home.”
Nicola and Dan are now planning a holiday with the money they saved in Stamp Duty – which followed the Chancellor’s recent announcement to scrap Stamp Duty for first time buyers on homes up to £250,000.
Prices at Burghfield Place currently start from £149,995. For details visit stamford-homes.co.uk.
