Have you ever considered buying a studio apartment but been put off by the challenge of creating a functional living space? Genesishomes is offering affordable studio apartments at its Chelsea Bridge Wharf development in Wandsworth which can be adapted in many creative ways to provide an enjoyable, flexible living space.

A well-designed studio is much more than an exercise in minimalism or clever furniture arrangement. To be an enjoyable, easy space to inhabit, it needs to be practical, attractive and above all, just as easy to live in as a large home. This calls for careful thought, planning and a clear understanding of exactly what you need from the space on a daily basis.

Rachel Best, Design Director at Oasis Interior Design Ltd, has designed a number of show apartments for Genesishomes including one at Chelsea Bridge Wharf. Rachel advises: “The art of creating the best use of a studio apartment is to ensure you tailor it to your everyday needs. Purchasing some good storage units which are floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall units is ideal as they can accommodate a wide number of items including your TV, books and clothes. If you buy some with sliding doors, you can hide it all away instantly.

“Make sure all the furniture has castors so that they can be easily wheeled around the room, ensuring you can change things around easily. You could also invest in a pull-down bed which can be used for additional storage during the day and neatly folded away when friends and family visit.”

“In terms of decoration, keep the colours of the walls and furniture neutral. Using glass works well, and white keeps the studio looking light and spacious.”

The studio apartments at Chelsea Bridge Wharf offer a specification as desirable as the location. Kitchens come with fitted beech-effect units, granite-effect worktops and satin chrome bar handles, white ceramic wall tiles above worktops, stainless steel sinks, chrome mixer taps and stainless steel electric ovens, hobs and extractor hoods.

A selection of the studio apartments boasts a balcony offering views towards the City or to the landscaped internal courtyard. The living area has been finished with hardwood flooring as well as Sky+ points. Bathrooms feature full-height ceramic wall tiles to the bath area and a chrome heated towel rail.

Chelsea Bridge Wharf is well connected for those working in Central London or the City. Sloane Square and Pimlico Underground stations take you to Green Park, Oxford Circus, Canon Street and Westminster. Queenstown Road and Battersea Park stations offer fast services into London Victoria while the numbers 44 and 137 buses head into central London.

All of the properties are available on a shared ownership (part-buy/part-rent) basis. This allows people to buy a share in the property and pay a subsidised rent on the rest.

To be eligible, this must be the buyer’s first property purchase or their only home. Their household income must be less than £60,000 and they will need savings of around £3,500, to cover moving and legal costs.

Once purchasers have bought, they can also buy additional shares if they wish, as and when they can afford to do so.

Prices start from as little as £47,500 for a 25% share in a studio apartment at Chelsea Bridge Wharf, based on a full market value of £190,000. For more information visit genesishomes.org.uk.
