More home for less in Cannock

Canny Cannock homebuyers are embracing money-saving reality and a new way of life to move up in the world, reports Taylor Wimpey West Midlands.

And they’re doing it via spacious three-storey properties (especially at Fallowfields in picturesque Huntington village on the edge of the Chase) that simply provide more home for your money and a truly flexible approach to today’s spontaneous lifestyles.

Sales & marketing director, Jan Titley, explains: “Three-storey homes are now in big demand because the space available is concentrated in the main living areas – where people spend most of their time or want to do their socialising. Equally, with the bedrooms split over the top two floors, there is plenty of scope for privacy within a family, or when relatives/guests stay over.

“The savings to be made do surprise a lot of our customers. Three-storey properties can be significantly cheaper than conventional two storey homes and they provide a completely different dimension to your usual three/four bedroom home. A new breed of homebuyer has emerged that sees the extra floor as fresh, exciting and trendy, plus a lot more practical and appropriate for their busy lifestyle.”

At Fallowfields in semi-rural Huntington, just six three storey properties remain and the four bedroom, three-storey Malvern is available from just £169,995. This is great value - especially when you compare this to a more conventional four bedroom, two storey detached home already sold - which is actually smaller in terms of overall size but actually cost some £20,000 more.

So, be inspired by this luxury mews-style home with integral garage and a feature kitchen/dining room on the ground floor with French doors out to the rear garden, while other highlights include a spacious lounge and bedroom-cum-study on the middle floor and large master bedroom with private ensuite on the top floor, along with two other bedrooms.

The detached five bedroom, three storey Sutton with garage, meanwhile, is only £274,995 and features a large family bathroom plus ensuites to bedrooms one and two, an expansive lounge with access to the private rear garden, a spacious kitchen diner with French doors to the garden, downstairs cloakroom, plus a separate study.

Clever design fuses naturally with intelligent planning at Fallowfields, which takes into account the Government’s call for minimum density new housing. This has led to a renaissance of three-storey period-style homes that please both home buyer and local planner alike - families get a versatile, adaptable living space plus a real sense of community, the government gets its greater concentration of housing, and everyone benefits from more open spaces.

Mrs Titley says: “With space at a premium, we’re redeveloping the tradition of town centre family living that existed in the classic Georgian terraces of the late 18th century. They were quite tall and elegant too - and families today are equally hard pressed to get more house and living space for their money. It’s all down to popular demand because converts to modern three-storey living love the fact they’ve got this extra space to work with, relax with, or entertain with. How they use this space is up to them, but it takes contemporary living to a whole new level. The extra floor can be a teenage haven, a guest floor, a granny flat or even a gym or office area, but it’s proving to be the best solution for our increasingly important issue of ‘personal’ space.”

Apart from its proximity to Cannock Chase, Fallowfields offers tree-lined avenues, lots of established, mature trees, plus a host of natural, green areas within its boundaries - because it falls in restricted green belt. Huntington itself is rich in mining heritage, but has recently benefited from new housing, investment and regeneration, while it’s very well connected too – the main A34 from Cannock to Stafford runs through the village and the M6 and Toll Road is just a few minutes drive away.

Sales executive Linda Elstob is highly experienced and says that Fallowfields with its distinctive horseshoe-shaped streetscene is the most picturesque development she has worked on, while site manager Mick Wale was recently placed in the top 20 nationally in the National House Building Council’s annual ‘Quality’ awards.

Linda adds: “Three storey living enables elderly relatives or teenagers to have their own private space within the family home, there’s flexibility built in for the ‘boomerang generation’ when grown up kids come back home to live, while people that work from home can now set aside a designated office area. Extra space is the new luxury at home - for work, rest and play - but just for once it doesn’t have to be about paying extra .... just buying smarter!”

The Sales Centre and showhome off Stafford Road, are open Thursday – Monday between 10am – 5pm.
