Throckley Primary School youngsters get ready to learn about bricklaying.

Youngsters at Throckley Primary School were given a lesson in bricklaying when housebuilder Barratt North East stepped in to help build a flower garden in their playground.

The pupils – appropriately from the school’s foundation stage – were guided by site manager David Jamieson and bricklayer Des Askew.

David is in charge at The Leazes development close to the school in the west of the city, where Barratt is building 81 new homes in partnership with Your Homes Newcastle and the city council.

The four-year-olds had made bricks with their names on during an earlier visit to a local brick supplier, and helped put them into the walls of the raised flowerbed.

Mike Roberts, Managing Director at Barratt North East, said: “Wherever we build, we try to make a positive contribution to the local community.

“We were delighted to help out with the school flower garden and hope the children had some fun and also learned a little about building.”

There will be homes for sale and rent at The Leazes, with the first ready to move into later this year. For further information visit: barratthomes.co.uk
