Mercedes-Benz Test Day’s star cars, vans and trucks

If you haven’t yet experienced a drive in the stunning Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet or, the recently awarded ‘Truck of the Decade’ the Mercedes-Benz Actros, this year’s SMMT Test Day will provide the ideal opportunity.
Mercedes-Benz is unique among vehicle manufacturers in that it offers a wide range of test drive experiences, and that’s just what it promises at the annual motoring media event being held at Millbrook Proving Ground on 27 May 2010.
The very latest models from the Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars and Commercial Vehicles line up will be available to drive on Millbrook’s famous Bowl, Alpine Route and off-road course, including: The new E-Class Cabriolet; new E-Class Estate; new smart fortwo BRABUS tailor made cabrio, smart fortwo cdi coupé, Sprinter 4x4, Atego 7.5-tonne rigid, and Actros 6x2 tractor unit.
But that’s not all… Mercedes-Benz is also offering the ultimate trucking and off-road experiences in a stunning Unimog off-road fire engine, and Actros tractor unit, for a small charitable donation.
For a modest monetary contribution, test drives and passenger rides will be available in the awesome Unimog U4000 fire engine (with flashing lights) and Actros 2546, with all proceeds going to the charity ‘Women on the Move against Cancer’ (WOMAC). And, in keeping with last year’s Vito Taxi meter donation, Mercedes-Benz will be pleased to match all monies raised on the day in support of this important cause. The suggested minimum donation per seat is £2 – cheaper than a daily cappuccino – although generosity is encouraged!
The event will also be a chance to catch up with familiar faces and meet new ones, with the Mercedes-Benz Cars and Commercial Vehicles PR team in attendance during the day.
Mercedes-Benz vehicles available at the 2010 SMMT Test Day
New E-Class Cabriolet
The highly appealing E-Class Cabriolet is the fourth addition to the successful Mercedes-Benz E-Class line-up. The open-top two-door model features a high-tech fabric soft top and world-first AIRCAP draught-stop technology, giving a no-wind-in-the-hair cabriolet feeling.
New E-Class Estate
Like the Saloon and Coupé, the new Estate combines its own, elegant design with leadership in safety, comfort, quality and practicality. And with a class-leading 1950-litres in the load bay, enough room to transport a sideboard, 50” TV or a fridge-freezer.
smart fortwo BRABUS tailor made cabrio
The smart fortwo BRABUS tailor made enables owners to design their own smart from an infinite array of special colours and bespoke interiors that will create thousands of combinations to choose from. The car on show is in a stunning Byfleet Blue livery, inspired by the record-breaking Brooklands cars from years ago.
smart fortwo cdi coupé
Having established itself as the cleanest production car in the world, the smart fortwo cdi has raised the bar once again as its CO2 emissions now stand at only 86g/km, making it a CO2 champion.
Sprinter 4X4
The factory built Sprinter 4x4 (with either selectable 4x4, or selectable 4x4 with low range gears) is as equally at home cruising highways and byways, as it is delivering much needed palletised goods, or attacking adverse hillsides on route to perform a mountain rescue. With its raised ride height and Mercedes-Benz 4-ETS (Electronic Traction System) which is functionally integrated with Adaptive ESP, the Sprinter offers unrivalled traction management.
Atego (MSS)
All Atego trucks, from 7.5 to 16-tonnes, with manual transmission are now fitted with the MSS (Motor Stop Start) system as standard. This intelligent system helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions by switching the engine off when the vehicle is stationary and automatically switching it back on again the moment you depress the clutch.
Actros
The third generation of Mercedes-Benz flagship truck has been further improved with 37 individual measures relating to economy, comfort, safety and design. And the readers of Truck & Driver magazine recently voted this vehicle “Truck of the Decade”, just a year after it was crowned International Truck of the Year. And it’s available to drive on Millbrook’s closed circuit.
Unimog U4000 fire engine
The iconic Unimog is unrivalled in terms of practicality, ability and desirability. It can be equipped for specialised and customised roles better than any other series-produced vehicle. It’s capable of travelling at normal truck speeds on the highway, but also offers exceptional all-wheel drive off-road ability, leaving every other utility vehicle behind. And, in fire engine spec, the Unimog has the ability to tackle blazes in conditions that would leave any other vehicle floundering.
