TransLinc, the UK's leading provider of specialist fleet management and passenger services to local authorities, has delivered two ultra-low emissions refuse collection vehicles to Solutions SK who manages Stockport Council’s Refuse and Recycling operations in the borough.

The Mercedes-Benz Econic 2629LL 6x2s are fitted with Faun bodies and Zoeller lifters and are equipped with Euro V (EEV) compliant diesel engines which will deliver long term benefits by cutting emissions and improving air quality in the region. To date, TransLinc has provided over 230 commercial vehicles to Stockport Council in a relationship that spans 10 years.

The trucks were supplied by Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle dealer Enza, of Trafford Park, Manchester and the new Econics are being delivered by TransLinc on six year contract hire with maintenance agreements.

Mark Rimmer, Solutions SK’s  Recycling Operations Manager - Environmental and Fleet Services, said: “We are always looking at ways in which we can  reduce our carbon footprint and these new Mercedes vehicles are up to 33 per cent cleaner in specific emissions than other similar vehicles on the fleet .”

Huge reductions in emissions of pollutants have been made by truck manufacturers since the early nineties. The efficiency gains of the latest Mercedes-Benz Econic models relate to lower emissions over the long term vehicle life cycle.  Normally, reductions in emissions have an adverse effect on fuel consumption because engines are more restricted, but in this case, fuel consumption remains virtually unchanged.

The vehicles are part of a major change at Stockport Council to move its recycling and refuse  vehicle fleet over to wheeled bin collections.

“We are delighted to have been able to provide Stockport Council with these latest Mercedes trucks, which have been built to reflect the very latest emission standards,” says Rob Hobson, Contract Manager for TransLinc.  “It’s interesting to think that they will be used to collect wheeled bins, but will be doing so with the cleanest possible regard to the environment, which results in positive benefits for all residents in the area.”

TransLinc supplies vehicles to schools, health authorities and public sector clients and manages over 4,000 specialist vehicles for 50 high profile customers and has worked across these sectors for over 30 years.
