Staffordshire housing fair proves a huge success

26th May 2010 Print

There is still a huge demand for affordable homes in the Staffordshire region – a fact that was highlighted at the recent North Staffordshire Housing Fair. Jointly organised by Orbit HomeBuy Agents and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, the event attracted almost 140 visitors, each keen to find out more about all aspects of housing, whether they prefer to rent or buy.

As well as residents, the event also showed that organisations operating in the regions, which are involved in all aspects of home-ownership, were keen to work together - in total, just under 40 exhibitors took part in the event. Along with Orbit HomeBuy Agents and Stoke-on-Trent City Council, developers, regeneration agencies, private landlords, voluntary organisations, building societies, independent financial advisors and solicitors turned out to provide as wide a range of information as possible about housing issues.

Newcastle Borough Council, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Stafford Borough Council, Plumlife, Sanctuary Housing Association, Aspire Housing, Riverside, Stafford and Rural Homes, Staffordshire Housing Association, Miller Homes, Lovell, and Taylor Wimpey were among those taking part.

The Fire Service gave out valuable information on home safety and voluntary organisations including the Citizens Advice Bureau, Warmzone and Beat the Cold provided advice on a range of issues.

Orbit HomeBuy Agents Manager, Karen Coleman said: “We were absolutely delighted to see such a great turnout from both exhibitors and visitors to this event and it was a great opportunity to promote all the HomeBuy products that are available to people who have been struggling to get onto the property ladder. Working in partnership with other organisations helps to give those in housing need access to all the information they need in one place and feedback from everyone was incredibly positive. There was a general consensus that the event really helped to serve the people of Staffordshire in relation to housing needs, issues and concerns.”

Val Bourne, Head of Housing Services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council said: “The event was a great success. Visitors left with a vast amount of information and we are sure this will not only help them find a home they can afford but will also show them ways of protecting it, staying warm in the winter months and keeping down their bills.”
