Sofa specialist ScS knows all about comfort and quality – which explains why its latest batch of 10 new trucks once again wear the three-pointed star of Mercedes-Benz.

The 7.5-tonne Atego 816s were supplied by North East dealer Bell Truck and Van, and are fitted with GRP boxes, built to ScS’s own specification by Dependable Bodies, of Gateshead.

The retailer’s all-Mercedes-Benz fleet now extends to 55 vehicles – all are 7.5-tonners with the exceptions of three Sprinter vans.

The vehicles are based at nine regional warehouses across mainland UK, from where they deliver furniture to the homes of customers who have chosen and bought pieces after visiting one of ScS’s 96 showrooms, or ordering online via the company’s website.

Jeff Ritchie, Fleet Supervisor for the Sunderland-based firm, revealed: “Although we’re very happy with Mercedes-Benz, we also wanted to test the market. So we drew up a short-list of three contenders, examined them all closely, and also sought feedback from our drivers.

“Once we’d weighed up factors such as running costs, performance, reliability, driver appeal, dealer support and the obvious benefit of staying with a tried-and-trusted solution, the Atego emerged as a clear winner.

“We know the trucks well and have complete faith in their ability, as well as enjoying good relationships with the Mercedes-Benz network – that’s important, because the vehicles are maintained by the dealer nearest to the warehouse at which they are based. Our drivers were pleased with the choice too as the Atego was definitely their favourite.”

ScS was established more than 100 years ago, and offers a range of more than 200 sofas, upholstered in a range of leathers and fabrics as well as co-ordinating occasional furniture.
