Toshiba launches Portege R700 laptop

Toshiba have announced the thinnest and lightest full-function 33.8cm (13.3’’) laptop in Europe, the Portege R700. It’s a well-specified business machine that combines a lightweight, ultra-slim chassis with innovative computing technologies.
Toshiba also offers a more consumer-oriented version, the Satellite R630. The Portege R700 and the Satellite R630 will be available during the third quarter of 2010 throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa.
“Our long-standing engineering expertise has enabled us to design a laptop with an unparalleled blend of high performance, mobility and features – yet at a decent price,” says Thomas Teckentrup, General Manager, Product, Strategy and Development Division, Computer Systems Group EMEA. The result is a slim and light 33.8cm (13.3’’) ultra-portable machine that measures just 16.8mm tall and weighs only 1.3kg.
Groundbreaking technologies
“To achieve a device like the Portege R700 we have made major advances in three areas: heat management, chassis construction, and memory chip deployment," explains Thomas Teckentrup.
Airflow Cooling Technology, co-developed by Intel and Toshiba, allows Toshiba to integrate the latest Intel Core family processors in the Portege R700's slim casing while keeping the sound of the fan to a minimum. A oneycomb structure in the palmrest area makes the Portege R700 highly durable against flexing - protecting the electronic and mechanical components from being damaged, considerably prolonging the life of the product. By innovatively stacking the memory slots vertically, the Portege R700 can accommodate up to 8GB RAM for even more powerful performance.
Travel light, work easily
The black Portege R700 enables business users to travel light without compromising on performance. Thanks to the integration of the latest Intel standard voltage Core processors and the availability of an optical disc drive, the slim and light laptop is equipped to run even the most-demanding multimedia applications. And the powerful performance of Portege R700 doesn’t compromise on battery life - it can run for an entire working day of up to eight hours on one battery charge. The new model offers even more useful features to enhance its portability and appeal for business people; e.g. a durable yet very elegant black magnesium-alloy cover with a matt finish, a 3D sensor for hard disk protection against drops and shocks, a broad range of connectivity options, a non-reflective screen and a docking station connector. The docking station supports HDMI and USB 3.0 for fast data transfer.
Satellite R630 - designed for consumers
While the Portege R700 is designed mainly with business users and professionals on-the-go in mind, Toshiba also debuts the Satellite R630 which differs from the Portege R700 in a few ways to better suit consumer users. Since docking is not typically required in private usage, this connector is omitted from the Satellite R630, as is the fingerprint sensor. As standard a CSV screen is fitted, although in some countries customers are also offered the choice of non-CSV models.
