Four site managers working for local housebuilder Barratt North East have scooped prestigious awards in a national competition to find the best-run building sites in Britain.

They have won Pride in the Job Quality Awards for their excellent standards of workmanship.

The Barratt winners are:

• Steve Bellamy, for his work at Beechwood in Sacriston, Durham
• Michael Marram, for Lyons Park, Hetton-le-Hole
• Graeme Simpson, for Mandale Park, Thornaby
• Mark Summersgill, for The Chase, Ingleby Barwick

This is the second year running that Mark Summersgill has won a Quality Award.

Barratt won more Quality Awards for North East developments than any other housebuilder. All four men now go forward to the next round of the competition.

The Pride In The Job awards are the most coveted in the industry. They are awarded after the construction standard setting body NHBC (National House-Building Council) carries out a series of spot check site inspections to select the best-organised and best-quality housing developments.

Almost 13,000 site managers throughout Britain were judged on every aspect of their job, including technical skill, quality workmanship, customer service and site safety.

The national recognition comes just weeks after Barratt became the first major housebuilder ever to be awarded an official five-star rating for customer satisfaction by the Home Builders Federation.

Mike Roberts, Managing Director of Barratt North East said: “The official recognition of the jobs which Steve, Michael, Graeme and Mark are doing shows that Barratt is building some of the best quality homes in the country here in the North East.

“The site manager plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality new homes and that is why we are so delighted with all four of these national awards.

“It is because we have such confidence in the quality of our build that last year we became the first housebuilder to provide a five-year warranty on all the internal fixtures and fittings.

“We are determined to continue operating at the highest possible level and deliver hundreds more homes of exceptional quality in the region in the next 12 months.”

Across Britain, Barratt Group site managers have won a record 82 Quality Awards in this year’s competition, the highest number for an unprecedented sixth consecutive year.
