Three North East site managers are celebrating after winning a prestigious national award that recognises the very best in the UK.

Barrie Dobson, Simon Robson and Paul Ritchie who work for leading house builder Miller Homes North East have been named winners of the coveted National House-Building Council’s (NHBC), Pride in the Job Quality Award.

Pride in the Job is an award programme that has been running for the past 30 years designed to recognise the achievements of the very best site managers in the UK. The aim to raise quality standards of new homes and reward the people behind building beautifully finished homes.

Barrie, who oversees the Cobblers Hall development in Newton Aycliffe, Simon who is site manager for Heather Lea Green in Crook, County Durham and Paul, who looks after Fairview Gardens in Stockton on Tees all underwent an 18-month judging process, including spot checks on the day-to day running of the sites.

The trio were assessed across 38 areas of site management and tested on technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and the quality controls.

Paul’s success has now seen him appointed to look after Miller’s latest new development Greenvale Park, in Newcastle upon Tyne, where 93 new homes will start to be built this year.

It is also the second year in a row that Simon has won a Pride in the Job Award and he now goes forwards with Barrie and Paul, to take part in the next stage of the competition, where they could be in line for a Seal of Excellence 2010 or a special regional award.

Miller Homes North East production manager Neil Dickie said: “The adjudication process for these awards is extremely detailed and only those who demonstrate the highest standards actually receive an award. Therefore the whole team is delighted by Barrie Paul and Simon’s success.

“Their efforts at Cobblers Hall, Fairview Gardens and Heather Lea Green are testament to the fact that after 75 years in the industry, Miller Homes are still producing affordable, quality homes for life.”

Paul Ritchie said: “It is a great achievement to be recognised for setting high standards in building quality homes for life. My team know that I set high standards. If people are well organised and motivated they perform the best and deliver a quality job.

“I am now very much looking forward to bringing my talented team, knowledge and expertise up to the Greenvale Park development, which we all see as a landmark site.”
