Mr and Mrs Birch celebrate their brand new apartment at Vine Court

Mr and Mrs Birch are celebrating this month as they are the first to reserve a brand new apartment at Vine Court, the new Care Plus’ development in Bridgetown, Cannock.

William, 65, and Patricia, 63, reserved an apartment after attending an open day where prospective buyers viewed plans, artists impressions, fixtures and fittings. They chose a two bedroomed home on a part-rent, part-buy basis at the scheme for the over 55s.

The couple, who have always lived and worked in the area, wanted to move to a smaller property that would be easier to manage than their current family home. They were also looking for a home that would prove safe and secure when they were holidaying and would help release some equity to aid their retirement.

William explained: “We currently live in a three bedroomed family home and, since our children moved out, Patricia and I have found it to be something of a burden. Also, we enjoy going on holidays, so the thought of moving to a smaller self-contained apartment in a bigger complex was particularly appealing - it is somewhere we can lock and leave without worrying about our personal belongings as we know they will be safe. It will also mean our monthly outgoings will be dramatically reduced and we can spend more on doing the things we enjoy and on our family.”

In addition to the 83 one and two bedroomed apartments, Vine Court, which is currently under construction and due to open in September 2010, will boast a number of communal spaces for the use of residents and visitors. These include a restaurant, a residents’ lounge, a sensory garden, a hair and beauty salon and a multi-functional hobby room.

Vine Court will also provide flexible care and support packages to residents. Adrian Hanley, sales and marketing officer responsible for Vine Court explains: “This is an exciting development for the local community and there has been a lot of interest in it, as people learn about our modern approach to housing for the over 55s.

“Care Plus recognises how important retaining independence is to older people, so in Vine Court it has developed a housing scheme which will allow residents to do this, but with a level of support to suit their needs. As a community this is a great facility to have and, as a leading housing provider, we are proud to provide such fantastic apartments in Cannock.”

Care Plus, which is part of the leading West Midlands housing group, Housing Plus, recognises how important retaining independence is to those over 55, so in Vine Court it has developed a housing scheme which will allow residents to dictate how and when the care they want is provided to them.

Each of the apartments comes fitted with a call system in case of emergencies and there will be staff on call 24 hours a day, offering peace of mind to residents and their families. Residents can also draw on a range of flexible care and support services, as and when required.

Adrian continues: “Many people moving into the apartments may not need any of these services but will rest assured that should they ever need them, they are there, enabling them to continue their independent lifestyle. We look forward to welcoming Mr and Mrs Birch to the development along with the other local people who take up this fantastic opportunity.”

Vine Court has a range of one and two bedroomed apartments available to rent or to part-rent, part-buy. To arrange a viewing of the recently opened show flat, or for more information, visit: care-plus.org.uk
