A specialist six-man team of Autoglym car care experts had their work cut out at the prestigious Salon Prive event at London’s Hurlingham Club this week (22-24 July).  Not only were they tasked by the event organisers with keeping more than 100of the world’s most exclusive supercars and rarest classic cars in pristine condition, they also had to contend with the challenges of periodic heavy showers and intense heat and sunshine.

Britain’s idiosyncratic summer weather proved an ample test both of the Autoglym team’s skills and the company’s new Hi-Tech Microfibre Drying Towel.  “The brief but heavy showers were often followed by very bright sunshine and high temperatures, so we had to act quickly to avoid the cars being covered with water spots,” explains Karl Heath, Technical Services Manager at Autoglym.  “This was a particular problem with some of the vintage cars which have little, if any, lacquer to protect their ageing paintwork.”

To add to the challenge, many of the cars were displayed under, or in close proximity to, the host of mature trees in the Hurlingham Club grounds.  When the heavens opened, the rainfall brought sap residues and leaves down onto the cars.

The Hi-Tech Microfibre Drying Towel proved the perfect tool for the job, making light work of quickly drying each car.  The advanced microfibre technology and unique woven construction gently removed fallout and water spots from the most fragile paintwork, leaving a flawless, streak-free finish.

Now in its fourth year, Salon Prive is one of London’s social highlights and a motoring occasion unlike any other.  With six concours categories that feature some of the world’s finest and rarest cars, the Salon Prive has earned its position as one of the most exclusive international concours events.

In 2010, Salon Prive attracted some of the world’s finest and rarest classic cars, including one of only two Profilee-bodied Type 46 Bugattis, an Hispano-Suiza H6B Coupe de Ville, Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder and an historic collection of post-war Aston Martins, including a DBR1.  This year’s Concours is being judged by a panel of experts and enthusiasts led by five-time Le Mans winner, Derek Bell MBE.

The Autoglym Hi-Tech Microfibre Drying Towel is available from all good motor accessory shops and retails at £12.99.  It can be washed and tumble-dried, and is durable enough to be used again and again for many years.
