Fallen soldier honoured by Taylor Wimpey in Ilkeston
Taylor Wimpey is delighted to announce that plans to name a new road after a fallen Ilkeston soldier have been given the go-ahead by Erewash Borough Council.
Greenhalgh Crescent will soon be unveiled at the leading local housebuilder’s Briars Chase development of houses for sale in Ilkeston, off Heanor Road, as a tribute to 25-year-old Lance Sergeant Dave Greenhalgh, who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year.
The decision to name the road in honour of L/Sgt Greenhalgh was made in the wake of calls from his family and friends, and councillors formally approved the plans at a meeting held on Wednesday 25th July.
Taylor Wimpey East Midlands’ Briars Chase development of property for sale in Ilkeston is currently being constructed where L/Sgt Greenhalgh’s childhood home used to stand.
Steve Farmer, Managing Director of Taylor Wimpey East Midlands, said: “We’re delighted that Erewash Borough Council has approved the naming of a road at Briars Chase after L/Sgt Greenhalgh.
“L/Sgt Greenhalgh was a dedicated soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country, and we are proud to be able to provide this fitting tribute to his memory.”
L/Sgt Greenhalgh was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan in February, and was the first soldier to lose his life during Operation Moshtarak, the UK and NATO offensive to drive the Taliban out of an area of Afghanistan.
Friends and family had called for Grey Meadow Road, part of the Briars Chase development, to be renamed in his honour – but this was not possible because of the number of new occupants already living there.
Briars Chase will see 280 one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses constructed off Heanor Road, Ilkeston.
