Helping students manage their money

The Lloyds TSB student account has all the tools students need to manage their finances throughout their degree, with an interest free planned overdraft of up to £1,500 and free mobile, internet and telephone banking.

In order to help students manage their spending in the first year at university the interest free overdraft is tiered to begin with. For the first six months a £500 overdraft is available, students can then apply to increase it to £1,000 in months seven to nine and following that the full £1,500 will be available to those that need it. This will help students ensure that they have access to additional funds throughout their first year, when many students will be in control of their budget for the first time. In the second and third year an untiered interest-free planned overdraft of up to £1,500 is available and up to £2,000 in years four, five and six.

Stay in control with free mobile banking

To help students manage their finances on the go, Lloyds TSB also offers free mobile banking. This includes free text alerts, a mobile banking application for mobile phones which allows users to check their balance and transfer money between accounts, order day-to-day banking items by text plus receive free text alerts every time their debit card is used abroad. Students also have access to Lloyds TSB's internet and telephone banking service to help them manage their money 24/7 wherever they are in the world.

Long term benefits for the university journey

The extended benefits have been designed to support students throughout their studies, offering them a wide range of discounts with retailers such as Amazon, Odeon, McDonalds, Superdrug & JJB Sports and YHA which will save them precious cash.

The NUS Extra Card will now be available free for three years; previously it was only offered for one year. The NUS Extra Card offers great wallet friendly discounts with over 80 top brands including Amazon, Odeon, McDonalds, Superdrug, and JJB Sports.

Additionally, students will get three years YHA membership completely free. So wherever they wish to go in the world, they can take advantage of discounts on accommodation. Membership includes great discounts at hostels in England and Wales as well as being a passport to a worldwide network of around 4,000 hostels in more than 90 overseas destinations.

Jatin Patel, Director of Personal Current Accounts, Lloyds TSB said: "This year's student offering has been designed to provide the right financial help to students heading off to university, many of whom will be managing their finances for the first time. We have also built on our previous offerings with NUS and YHA to ensure that students can enjoy these money saving benefits throughout their time at university, not just in their first year of studies.

"As one of the largest providers of student accounts in the UK we understand that starting university can be both an exciting and challenging time. That's why our Student Account is packed with features that will really help students manage their finances whilst the discounts that are available to them through our offers will also save them money."
