For the more mature guest and those who want to take their safari at a gentle pace but not miss out on any animal action, a stay with The Selous Safari Company (selous.com) in Tanzania will not disappoint.

Guests at the two luxury tented camps of Jongomero in the Ruaha National Park and Selous Safari Camp in the Selous Game Reserve can choose how active they want to be with their safari holiday.

Daniel Draisey, general manager at The Selous Safari Company, explains, “Just like fine-food, a safari experience should be relished and not rushed. Whilst we offer a choice of two gaming activities each day, guests are also encouraged to take time-out to relax and enjoy the facilities, ambience and to watch the animals as they saunter quietly through the camps!”

A relaxing safari can include:

A Lazy Lie-In... safaris can often involve an uncivilised early start, but not in Tanzania! Due to the topography of the land and the animals’ dependence on drinking water, the main game drives occur after breakfast at 8am as most animals make their way down to the lakes to drink only after the sun has come up.

Or for those who simply don’t do mornings, with two game drive opportunities each day they can venture out just in the afternoon in one of the four-wheel drive vehicles to explore the amazing sights and sounds of the African bush.

Putting Your Feet Up... neither Jongomero or Selous Safari Camp are fenced and elephants, giraffes, hippos and sometimes lions can pass through freely, giving guests the opportunity to watch the animals without even moving from the comfort of their luxury tents.

Messing About On The River... situated on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, which adjoins the mighty Rufiji River, the Selous Safari Camp offers a relaxing boat safari direct from the camp, giving the opportunity to get up close and personal with the animals as the boat cruises past crocodiles, hippos, buffalo and elephant.

Swimming Trunks... no holiday is complete without a leisurely swim and there are pools with easy access at both Selous Safari Camp and Jongomero. The pool at Jongomero Camp even has animal-friendly steps in case the larger animals wander in whilst searching for water!

After enjoying a relaxed safari, guests can continue their chill-out time with a few days on the shores of the Indian Ocean at Ras Kutani, a boutique coastal lodge of castaway luxury. Set amid a long stretch of unspoilt beach and a fresh water lagoon, Ras Kutani is the ideal hideaway for those seeking solace, luxury and Tanzanian charm.

For a unique and magical holiday, Tanzania Odyssey (tanzaniaodyssey.com) is offering a 10-night safari and beach experience in Tanzania for £4,100 per person (a saving of £900). Valid for selected dates from September 2010 to March 2011, the price includes scheduled flights from Heathrow, internal transfers and accommodation on a full-board basis with three nights at Jongomero Camp, three nights at the Selous Safari Camp and four nights at the luxurious Ras Kutani. Game viewing drives in open sided 4x4 vehicles, concession and park entrance fees, taxes and surcharges are also included.
