Cape Town hotel introduces in-room iPads

5th August 2010 Print

Iconic Cape Town Hotel Ellerman House will introduce Apple iPads to each of its eleven luxurious rooms and modernist villa over the coming months – the only hotel in South Africa to offer iPads for guests’ use.

The iPad is fast becoming an indispensible item within the gadget market and a supremely useful tool in the hospitality industry, due to both its numerous practical uses and leading entertainment.

This is Ellerman House’s latest move in a drive to enhance the guest experience through contemporary themes, bespoke luxury experiences and new technology. The introduction of in-room iPads will give guests uninterrupted internet access; the chance to read their favorite books and magazines online; up to date information on Cape Town’s latest restaurant openings, events and activities and real time hotel updates such as interactive room tours, virtual tours of the hotel’s world renowned art collection and unique music compilations, tailored to guest’s preferences.

“The huge amount of news stories, hotel information and insider tips on Cape Town that can be loaded onto an iPad mean that every guest at Ellerman House will have a quick, easy, convenient and enjoyable way of enhancing their stay with us in line with their personal preferences.” says General Manager Nick Dreyer.

However, Ellerman House might have to find a way of reminding guests to look up from their iPads and enjoy the hotel’s spectacular Cape Town views every once in a while.

Ellerman House is a gracious Cape Town hotel which sits in vast private gardens – a rarity for Cape Town – and features two splendid suites and nine luxury rooms, each with magnificent views over the Atlantic Ocean.

Part of the Relais & Chateaux collection, Ellerman House is world-renowned for its exceptional hospitality, extensive wine collection, superb spa, delectable cuisine and magnificent fine art and sculpture - the hotel’s owners have spent decades assembling a collection of the best South African artwork and last year launched a Contemporary Art Gallery within the hotel’s grounds in order to showcase Africa’s young, up and coming artists.

In 2009, Ellerman House added a striking villa with stunning minimalist design and architecture, sensational sea views, three suites and two spa suites, private butler and private chef, an entertainment room with flat screen plasma television and high tech stainless steel kitchen, fully stocked with delicacies from the best gourmet food shops in the city. Ellerman House also plans to open a second contemporary villa in 2011.
