First time buyers take advantage of HomeBuy Direct in Bolton

Alexandra Hamer and Philip Harriman are one of many happy couples who have used the Government backed HomeBuy Direct scheme to secure their first home – a two bedroom apartment at Taylor Wimpey Manchester’s Millgate development in Bolton.

HomeBuy Direct makes it possible for those with only a small deposit saved up to buy a new home, thanks to some banks offering 95% mortgages.

Only two homes remain on offer through the HomeBuy Direct scheme at Millgate, starting from £51,795, which means that mortages are available for first time buyers with as little as £2,730 deposit. Usually banks demand a 20 per cent deposit from people looking to buy an apartment.

For Alexandra and Philip, the scheme was the difference between buying their own home and continuing to live with Alexandra’s parents and grandparents at their home in Bury.

Alexandra said: “Philip and I were desperate for our own space so we began looking at houses on the internet. Philip spotted Millgate and ordered the brochure and I really liked it. I’d always preferred older homes but the apartments at Millgate were ideal. We’d read a bit about HomeBuy Direct but we only realised how much it could help us when Kath, the Taylor Wimpey sales executive, gave us some more details about it.

“Kath was brilliant, she explained the scheme in a way which was easy to understand. HomeBuy Direct was perfect for us because we hadn’t been able to save a big deposit and we’d been struggling to find something within our price range. Without it we simply wouldn’t have been able to afford to buy our own place.

“Kath kept us updated at every stage along the way and was really helpful in answering any questions we had – nothing was too big or too small - and making sure we understood what was going on. I can’t thank her enough – she really went above and beyond the call of duty for us and made the whole process run really smoothly.”

Taylor Wimpey Manchester sales and marketing director Anthony Mansfield said: “The HomeBuy Direct Scheme has been especially popular at Millgate where people were really struggling to find affordable mortgages with lower deposits. We only have two HomeBuy Direct properties left to sell before the scheme finishes, so if you are desperate for a home of your own, but only have a small deposit saved up, give our sales executive at Millgate a call. You might be surprised with what we can offer you.”

Although the scheme finishes in early September, Taylor Wimpey wants to remind househunters that there are other ways the housebuilder can help you take your first step onto the property ladder.

Anthony Mansfield continued: “We now have our great Easy Start scheme available, which allows homebuyers to own 100% of their new property for just 85% of the price, thanks to an interest free loan from Taylor Wimpey.”

At Millgate, the Easy Start scheme is now being offered on Geneva and Monaco apartment types. Both apartments consist of two bedrooms, combined living/dining room, separate kitchen, bathroom and allocated parking space. Usually, these apartments are available from £77,995 but, under Easy Start, the purchase price could fall to just £66,295.

A Geneva show apartment is open at Millgate, so potential buyers can see first hand what their new home could look like.

Millgate is located just outside Bolton town centre within easy reach of the M60 motorway and the town’s wide selection of High Street stores, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. It is also within walking distance of Bolton train station.

Alexandra added: “We hadn’t thought about buying in Bolton – it was really the development that brought us to the area. We took a look around the area at different times of the day and decided it was really nicely situated. It’s really well located for me to get to work in Salford – it takes about 25 minutes – and Philip works in Bolton so it’s ideal for him!”

Further information HomeBuy Direct at Millgate is available by visiting the development on Crescent Road, open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5pm.
