September weekends most popular for UK weddings
This coming weekend is set to become the most popular weekend to get married in the UK this year, according to specialist wedding insurer Ecclesiastical.
Friday 3rd - Sunday 5th September has become the single most popular weekend for tying the knot in 2010 for the insurer's customers. Ecclesiastical's data, based on wedding insurance policies it has sold this year, revealed that 2.5% of this year's entire weddings will take place during this weekend.
September weddings have risen in popularity this year, with 10th-12th September also topping the "most popular weekends to get married" list. This is a change from 2009, when July weekends were most popular for tying the knot.
Ecclesiastical's personal lines insurance manager Dave Simms said: "It's easy to understand why this weekend is so popular with brides and grooms. The weather is still at its best for the photographs and videos, but hopefully not as unsettled as it can sometimes be in July and August these days. Most potential guests are back from their summer holidays, and receptions can take place outdoors without the risk of sunburn.
"There is a clear shift to Friday weddings and Sundays are increasingly avoided for the big day. This, again, is no surprise as having your wedding on a Friday will enable you to prolong the celebrations throughout the weekend and guests can enjoy themselves without having to worry about going to work the following day. "
The five most popular weekends during which to get married in the UK in 2010 are:
3-4 September
10-11 September
17-18 July
24-25 July
24-25 September
Ecclesiastical's study is based on all of its wedding insurance policies sold online during 2010.
