Santander to create 400 front-line jobs in the UK

24th September 2010 Print

Following significant business growth, Santander UK is to create over 400 jobs in a number of its UK call centres. This is in addition to the 600 branch-based roles it announced in July and follows 3 years of continued and sustainable market share growth, above its stock share, across all areas of the business.

With the acquisition of Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley, Santander has 25 million customers in the UK, and with the launch of loyalty products such as the Santander Zero Current Account, with over 160k openings since its launch in January, the bank has seen significant growth in market shares as well as an increase in the number of products held by individual customers.

The bank has also been growing its SME lending by 20% this year and is providing one in five mortgages across the UK.

The new roles are required to meet this growth in the business and to ensure the bank continues to improve its service. Santander expects to have the 1000 roles filled by the first quarter next year.

As the most efficient UK bank, Santander has been passing on its cost advantage to customers, demonstrated by having more ‘best buy' mentions than any UK competitor over the last two years. Santander UK is also committed to branch-based banking, and through its acquisitions of A&L and B&B, and has maintained the size of its network.
