Boughton Hall Fête raises £1,500 for Barnardo's

The inaugural Boughton Hall Fête not only attracted hundreds of visitors but raised an impressive £1,500 for Barnardo’s.

A host of stalls, fun and games kept visitors busy all afternoon and contributed to the final total, money which will all go towards funding the charity’s work with vulnerable children.

Two special guests helped open the Fête alongside Barnardo’s regional community fundraising manager Becky Bainbridge. John Smurthwaite and Klaus Armstrong-Braun lived at Boughton Hall, in Filkins Lane, Chester, during the 1950s when it was a Barnardo’s children’s home. They have recently been reunited and have spent time with the new residents of Boughton Hall – now a retirement community – sharing their memories.

Boughton Hall’s residents, friends, children and grandchildren, along with neighbours and other local visitors, took part in a lollipop lottery, had their faces painted, hooked ducks, took a chance on the tombola, snapped up local produce and bought raffle tickets for prizes donated by local businesses and organisations.

“It was a wonderful afternoon,” said General Manager June Callaghan. “Every village should have a Fête and this first one at Boughton Hall showed just what a busy and active community has built up here.”
