To launch the start of its new series, hit Channel 5 motoring show Fifth Gear aimed for the record books and chose the stunning Skoda Fabia vRS as their weapon of choice.

Fifth Gear presenter Jonny Smith made full use of the Fabia vRS' standard 7-speed, twin-clutch gearbox and its 0-62mph time of just 7.3 seconds to break seven national records for time taken to cover 5km, 5 miles, 10km, 10 miles, 50km, 50 miles and 100km in its class at Millbrook Proving Ground's high speed bowl in September.

Thanks to its state-of-the-art direct injection, supercharged and turbocharged engine, the Fabia vRS produces 180bhp from just 1.4-litres, perfect for smashing the MSA Class F British speed record for 1,100 to 1,500 cc petrol engined cars.

The Skoda Fabia vRS broke the records that have stood for over 20 years thanks to its 139mph top speed, while Jonny Smith described it as “a car I could trust with my life”, thanks to its standard six airbags, ESP (including ABS, MSR and ASR) and strong safety shell.

Despite its outstanding performance, the Fabia vRS achieves an equally astonishing 45.6mpg combined.

Tune in to Fifth Gear tonight on Channel 5 from 7:30pm to see the dramatic record-breaking action.

The Skoda Fabia vRS is available now from just £15,700 OTR. See skoda.co.uk/ourcars for more information on Skoda’s range of great cars and offers.
