Taylor Wimpey site manager bags ‘Top 100’ award

John Curtiss, Senior Site Manager at Taylor Wimpey’s Canalside Wharf development of new homes in Weston, earns NHBC Seal of Excellence for his commitment to building top-quality homes for Staffordshire property-seekers.
Taylor Wimpey Senior Site Manager John Curtiss has earned a coveted prize in a prestigious UK building industry competition for his work at the Canalside Wharf development of property for sale in Weston, Staffordshire – known in the trade as a ‘Top 100’.
The Senior Site Manager at the leading housebuilder’s sought-after development of houses and flats in Weston, Staffordshire, was presented with a Seal of Excellence at the 2010 National House-Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job awards.
The Seal of Excellence is one of the top honours handed out by the NHBC each year in recognition of outstanding commitment to producing high-quality new homes and to maintaining exceptional standards in every aspect of building work.
The latest triumph for the father-of-two from Penkridge, near Cannock, comes after receiving a quality award on the same development of apartments and houses for sale in Weston.
“I’m very pleased to receive this award, as it’s great to have recognition for all the hard work you and your team put in over the year,” says John.
“The team ethic is incredibly important when it comes to managing a new development, and like any site manager, I have a close ‘inner team’ around me made up of trusted bricklayers, ground workers, plumbers, carpenters and so on.
“They are the backbone of the development, who are then complemented by the external contractors we use.
“After 21 years in the trade as an assistant site manager and site manager, I can honestly say it’s not a job you can relax in. There is always a problem that needs solving.
“But, when it’s all done and the development is completed, you do get a tremendous feeling of satisfaction.”
Of all the sites John has worked on over the past two decades, Canalside Wharf is one of his favourites location-wise.
With picturesque countryside on its doorstep, this charming collection of contemporary homes is set alongside a beautiful stretch of the canal within the peaceful village of Weston.
“It’s an idyllic place to live, a really lovely little village,” he says. “There’s a village green that the local children love to play on, two pubs, and an old fashioned Post Office and shop.
“Canalside Wharf itself is a lovely development, and the properties fronting the canal have exceptional views. It’s just a great place to live.”
Seal of Excellence winners really are the cream of the crop when it comes to delivering outstanding new homes and maintaining the safest and most efficient building sites.
The 130 recipients are whittled down from 400 Quality Award winners who are, in turn, selected from more than 18,000 NHBC-registered housebuilders running sites up and down the UK.
Each site manager undergoes a stringent selection process with independent judges visiting developments at key stages of construction to assess them on all aspects of house building.
A breath-taking portfolio of one and two-bedroom apartments and three and four-bedroom houses is available to reserve at Canalside Wharf. The homes currently on sale include the beautiful three-bedroom ‘Brooke’, priced from just £232,500, while those seeking the ultimate in spacious family living will be tempted by the four-bedroom ‘Chesterton’ home, from as little as £275,000.
Providing all the benefits of laid-back and traditional village living, the community offers a range of everyday local amenities, including a children’s playground, a doctor’s surgery and a village hall – with plenty of opportunities for relaxing countryside walks and cycling nearby.
Yet at the same time, the lively town of Stafford lies just a few miles away, with its rich variety of shops, places to eat, leisure facilities and nightlife. The town’s railway station provides regular services to London, Birmingham and Liverpool, while junction 14 of the M6 is only seven miles from the development.
Canalside Wharf showhomes and Sales Centre are open to visitors from 11am to 5pm, Thursday to Monday, and can be found off Saltworks Lane, Weston.
