Holistic spa opens at The Chelsea Club
Wellness secrets of India, the Far East and Europe arrive at Antara, the new holistic day spa opening this November at London’s premiership health club, The Chelsea Club at Stamford Bridge.
Antara which means ‘balance’ or ‘from within’ follows the ethos of bringing harmony to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies via the merging of Ayurvedic, Oriental and European wellness therapies. The Spa will offer a wide range of these therapies including private consultations with its Ayurvedic Physician, Dr Palitha Serasinghe, to cater for the wellbeing of its members and day spa visitors.
Antara Spa has been created as a calming oasis in the city, beautifully designed to reflect its global spa experiences. This includes five treatment rooms including a Moroccan styled Hammam for the ultimate cleansing experience, Indian inspired for Ayurvedic therapies and stylish chic for European beauty treatments. In addition there is Dr Palitha Serasinghe’s consultation room and an open manicure and pedicure area. Healthy meals and refreshments are available in The Chelsea Club lounge, a selection of which is coded according to Ayurvedic Dosha types.
Treatments at Antara are divided into three global experiences: European, Ayurvedic and Oriental.
European Experience
Antara’s extensive range of European treatments provide the ultimate in relaxation, renewal and indulgence using custom blended cosmeceuticals and exotic skin peels from Only Yourx skin care which incorporate extracts of fresh fruits including papaya, pineapple and banana to produce outstanding results. In addition, Antara offers a range of facials and massages from Aromatherapy Associates which use the healing powers of natural plant extracts to de-stress, repair and rejuvenate.
Ayurveda Experience
Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that means ‘science of life’ and is one of the oldest forms of medicine, dating back 6,000 years. It is still used widely in India to prevent and treat illness through lifestyle interventions and natural therapies. Guests booking into Antara for an Ayurvedic treatment will first receive a full consultation from the spa’s Ayurvedic Physician who will determine their ‘dosha’ type and advise on the treatments most suitable. There is a wide range of treatments which include ‘Pizhichil’, an oil bathing massage where the whole body is bathed in warm medicated oil with synchronised massage to enhance muscle tone, retune the nervous system and soothe aches and pains and ‘Kati Vasti’ a back treatment to relieve stiffness and spinal disc problems. Others include ‘Shirodhara’ to still a busy mind and Ayurvedic Ceremonies ‘Lepanam’ for cleansing and a ‘Bridal Ritual’.
Oriental Experience
Oriental therapies focus on the intrinsic energies of the body to affect the pattern of energy flow for good health. Antara’s collection of therapies and healing rituals draw on experiences from around the Far East and include: ‘Ancient Oriental Hammam’ and ‘Cleopatra’s Royal Bath’ for deep cleansing and relaxation of the body; ‘Shiatsu’ to balance the body and ‘Reiki’ to promote healing. Other innovative therapies from the Far East include ‘Trataka’, a technique devised by the ancient sages to improve eyesight; the ‘Ocha Rang Facial’ a pressure point facial which incorporates aroma changing water, elixir sprays and deliciously scented scrubs for the ultimate sensory experience; and ‘Agatha Yoga and Meditation’, a personalised yoga and meditation session.
