Half of UK adults view holidays as a luxury
According to recent figures by Mintel, almost half of people in the UK now see holidays as a luxury item, a rise from 38 per cent in 2007.
With many still wanting to take a holiday but needing to keep an eye on holiday cash, the Post Office is advising people to avoid spending extra money abroad through incurring charges when using some travel credit cards.
According to the Post Office’s Family Holiday Report more than half (52 per cent) of travellers are concerned by the charges made when using some travel credit cards abroad. Many travel credit card providers charge fees for using travel credit cards in overseas ATMs and for purchases made on their travel credit card while abroad. The Post Office advises holidaymakers to ensure they get the most from their cash by looking for the best deals on travel credit cards before setting off.
To help holidaymakers keep costs down, the Post Office is one of few travel credit card providers to offer 0% commission on overseas purchases. The Post Office also offers travel credit card customers 0% on balance transfers for the first 12 months and 0% on new purchases for the first three months.
