Viewing representatives hold the key

How many times have we tuned in to property programmes on TV and envied the presenters’ opportunities to look around lovely homes?
Well, move over Kirstie and Phil – independent estate agents and valuers Harrison Murray are offering a better service to sellers when it comes to marketing their home.
A number of viewing representatives are currently employed across the Harrison Murray group, providing an invaluable service to both sellers and buyers.
And while those filling the role don’t necessarily have estate agency experience, a rigorous interview and on-the-job training – as well as undergoing personal security checks - means they are a valued part of the team.
Among those to have applied and been successfully interviewed for the role is 64-year-old David Penton.
David currently works as a viewing rep for the Wigston office in Leicestershire, and relishes the opportunity to ‘sell’ a home to a prospective buyer.
Since taking up the post in April, after answering an advert in the branch window, semi-retired David has conducted some 240 viewings on behalf of Harrison Murray – ticking all the boxes with his general interest in property, his communication skills, rapport with customers and local knowledge.
All Harrison Murray staff, including viewing representatives, are required to sit a test on Estate Agency legislation when they join the company.
David liaises closely with Wigston branch manager Jennie Andrews, receiving a full brief on the property beforehand.
“I generally conduct viewings in the evenings or at weekends – sometimes with the vendors there also but often alone with the potential new buyer.
“I take them round the housing, giving relevant information about the property and the area, points of interest about the home and generally answering as many questions as possible – even down to knowing the local schools and bus routes!”
David added: “I do take a brief from Jennie at Harrison Murray and refer anything I am unable to answer back to the branch.”
Jennie Andrews, branch manager at Wigston added: “David is a real asset to the team – a lovely gentleman who not only is a great customer-facing advert for Harrison Murray, but whose role also helps our customers benefit from a negotiator’s time in the office.”
