How to pass the parents evening test

If you feel like a naughty school child when you’re sat in front of your child’s teacher at parents’ evenings, then you’re not alone. Listening to them talking about what the apple of your eye is struggling with or doing wrong, while feeling like it’s all your fault is one of the most daunting nights of a parents’ year.

We turn up hoping for the best, feeling like our ability as a parent is being judged by the teacher and try and forget the experience as quickly as possible once out the door.

Because of our fears, it’s easy to forget the reason why parents’ evenings are there in the first place; to give us an insight into how our children behave at school and what they excel or struggle with, with an eye to helping them improve in the future.

So how can you get the most out of parents evenings? Should you talk to your children before you attend them to find out if there is anything they’re not happy with? What questions should you ask your child’s teacher to make the most of the experience and what should you do if the news is not so good?

For the answer to all these questions and much more, Equazen Eye q have joined with TV presenter and mum Ruth Langsford and super teacher Francis Gilbert for a web TV show to give parents the ultimate guide to making parents evenings an educational and constructive event that ultimately helps their child progress.

Ruth Langsford and Francis Gilbert will be live online to discuss getting the most out of parents evenings.
