Leicestershire couple invest in their future

Nikki Eggington and partner Joseph Higgs escaped the rental trap

Tired of wasting their hard-earned cash on rent, Nikki Eggington and partner Joseph Higgs stepped onto the property ladder and bought a home of their own in Earl Shilton.

In doing so they secured a brand new home that looks very traditional from the outside but is bright, airy and modern inside.

The couple, both 24, became the very first residents of Redrow’s Rossendale Gardens venture when they moved into their two-bedroom ‘Evesham’ home.

“We felt like we were throwing money down the drain when we were renting. When we started looking for a home of own we discovered that new-build properties were more affordable than those on the second hand market as top brand name appliances are included in the kitchens and the modern bathroom features quality fixtures and fittings. Buying a brand new home means we don’t have to worry about finding extra cash for repairs, renovations or maintenance,” Nikki explained.

“Our mortgage repayments work out the same as the rent for our old city centre apartment, where we also had to pay extra for a parking space.”

Externally their home, which is from Redrow’s New Heritage Collection, looks traditional and is influenced by the architecture of the Arts and Crafts movement; while inside its styled for modern lifestyles.

“The New Heritage Collection homes have more character than other new builds. I think the design of the ‘Evesham’ is clever as it has lots of practical features such as the dedicated laundry room which is tucked away under the stairs,” Nikki commented.

“We looked at other new build homes and the rooms were like square boxes and seemed really small. The ‘Evesham’ really works for us because there’s space to put things.”

Rossendale Gardens offers a selection of two and three-bedroom homes from the New Heritage Collection, making it an ideal choice for those starting out, downsizers looking for somewhere more manageable and those who want to make their next step on the property ladder.

“It’s nice because it’s a small development close to existing homes. I’m looking forward to getting to know the neighbours as I never really knew the people who lived in the other apartments. There’s more of a community feel to living in a house than a block of flats,” Nikki added.

Prices at Rossendale Gardens start from £117,995.

A two-bedroom ‘Evesham’, similar to Nikki and Joseph’s, could be yours from only £122,995.

Earl Shilton boasts a range of local, independent shops plus restaurants, bars and takeaways to suit all tastes. With easy access of the motorway network, it’s a haven for commuters working in the neighbouring city of Leicester and the towns of Hinckley and Nuneaton.

To experience Rossendale Gardens for yourself, visit the show home in Rossendale Road, open Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5.30pm.
