Colin Appleyard Cars commended for training programme

Colin Appleyard Cars, owner of four Suzuki franchise dealers, claimed the trophy for the “Best Training Programme” at the recent annual Automotive Management magazine (AM) Awards at the ICC in Birmingham, West Midlands. Suzuki's longest established UK car and 4x4 retailer fought off strong competition from Castrol Professional, the Honda UK Institute, and the Land Rover Brand Academy, amongst others, to take the coveted prize.

This year’s win follows success in the 2008 ceremony when Colin Appleyard’s Huddersfield site was named “Best Dealership”, and the business was equally nominated in the 2009 awards once again for the same prize in addition to that for the “Best Retail Group”.

The “Best Training Award” recognises the Suzuki retailer’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a high level of customer service, and the provision of three in-house development schemes which cover areas including sales training, management leadership skills, and continuous knowledge improvement. The company is now looking to build on the existing training programme for 2009 and conduct in-house quarterly profit clinics to further extend the knowledge base of employees.

Delighted with the award, Robin Appleyard, Managing Director of Colin Appleyard Cars, explains: “We are very pleased to have been recognised for our continued dedication to providing staff across our 10 sites with programmes which allow for personal development and growth within the business. Thanks to this, we have been rewarded with a notable increase in profitability, and we are looking to introduce further courses during the coming year to drive the business forward in a very challenging climate.”
