Part exchange saves the day in Blackhall Rocks
Part exchange came to the rescue for lifeguard Sandra Grufferty and husband Peter when they couldn’t find a buyer for their old home.
After five months on the market their 1950s ex-local authority house in Peterlee remained unsold – until the couple discovered The Sidings, Barratt North East’s development at Blackhall Rocks, and decided to take a look around.
Just a month later, they were settling into their new home at the development with son Adam, thanks to the famous Barratt part exchange service.
“We were driving past, saw a sign for the development and decided to call in,” said Sandra. “We thought the houses were really nice, went home and talked it over and decided to come back.
“The part exchange was ideal for us. Given the way the market is, I think we would still have had our old house up for sale if we hadn’t come across The Sidings.
“It took all the hassle and the stress out of the move. The solicitors and mortgage people were all sorted out for us and everything went through in four weeks.
“The sales adviser Kath Marshall and site manager Kevin Anderson couldn’t have done more for us, they were always there to help.”
Sandra and Peter also qualified for a special £500 bonus from Barratt, for showing potential purchasers around their old house who went on to buy the property.
The family bought a 2-bedroom ‘Washington’ home, one of the housebuilder’s most popular designs, which came complete with carpets throughout.
“We love it,” said Sandra, “there’s lots of space and the layout is really good.”
The development’s location, tucked away off the A1086 Coast Road through the village, also suits the family down to the ground.
Sandra works as a swimming teacher and lifeguard at Peterlee Leisure Centre, while Peter works as a wood machinist in Hartlepool and Adam is at college.
“It’s a great spot,” said Sandra. “We’re just two minutes from the coast and it’s handy for getting to work, either by bus or car.”
Barratt is offering part exchange on selected homes at The Sidings.
It also has some special deals for first-time buyers on two 2-bedroom Washington homes, available through the Head Start equity share scheme for a move-price of £79,995 up front.
