How to write a letter to Santa and his Elves
Santa says …. “My elves and I are lucky enough to receive millions of letters from children all over the world every year, reminding us how good they’ve been, and telling us what they’d like for Christmas. We’re now experts in spotting brilliant letters, so here are our top writing tips for anyone sending a letter to us this year”:
Think about your writing paper
We enjoy opening bright envelopes and seeing beautiful writing paper. John Lewis has a good selection of stationery for children, including a Gruffalo writing set (£10), which includes fun writing paper, envelopes, stickers and a pencil.
Use your best handwriting
We want to be able to read exactly what you want for Christmas, so use your best handwriting and practise on a spare piece of paper first to make sure you get it just right. If you use a pen, go to John Lewis - they have pen experts in store who can advise you on good pens to use, and you can practice your handwriting before you buy. Sarah Bull, stationery buyer at John Lewis tell us that Cross pen sets are up 75% on last year, so we’re expecting beautifully written letters to start arriving any day. She says, “Santa loves receiving letters and this is a great opportunity for parents to work with their children to to instill excellent letter writing techniques and have fun at the same time.”
Write a list
Make sure that you write a list of the presents you’d most like. If you’re not sure what you want, have a look around toy shops and department stores and write down any ideas in a notepad. The Rachel Ellen Secret Diary (John Lewis, £7) has a lock on it, so you can write down any present ideas for your family too.
Post your letter in good time
The North Pole is a long way away, and letters can take anything from a few minutes, to several days to reach us. Ask your mum or dad to take you to the John Lewis toy department where there is a special Santa’s post box.
