Traditional games sweep Britain as sales soar by 150%
Nostalgia is back in style, with traditional games set to be a best seller this Christmas. Johnlewis.com has seen sales of their traditional games soar by almost 150% compared to last year, as preparations for the festive season take over.
With people considering their purchases much more before they buy, traditional games tick all the boxes. Phil Anniss, games buyer at John Lewis said, “Our sales figures suggest that our customers will be spending more time at home this Christmas. Classic games are not only a great way to get the whole family together but can also be passed down for future generations to enjoy.”
The John Lewis tipping tower is currently the number one selling traditional game, with games of skill and strategy such as Chess, Backgammon and Mah Jong also in the top five. Dominoes are also seeing a return to fashion, as celebrities including Kelly Brook and Demi Moore have recently been spotted playing.
Phil continued, “Our customers are looking for classic family entertainment during the festive season. Even with the advent of 3D TV and the Xbox Kinect, people are keen to pass down the skill of traditional games for every generation to enjoy. We are expecting sales to rise even further as Christmas draws ever closer.”
