Toyota and Red Cross launch summer road safety campaign Toyota (GB) PLC has teamed up with the British Red Cross for the second year in succession to run the Don’t Be A Bystander campaign which aims to deliver roadside first aid training to over 60,000 children and deliver messages about first aid to a further 100,000 young people. The campaign, backed by Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq, launches next month and continues throughout the summer.

Injuries from road accidents rise significantly amongst 9 to 13 year old pedestrians and in order to help reduce road deaths within this vulnerable age group, Toyota and the Red Cross will be running roadshows across the country, teaching children life saving first aid skills.

British Red Cross ambassador and TV presenter Konnie Huq said: "The Don’t Be A Bystander campaign is a great way for kids and their parents to learn roadside first aid. Doing something really simple like tilting someone’s head back to clear their airway could actually save their life if they are involved in a road accident. You don’t have to be special to learn first aid – anyone can do it."

Emily Oliver, First Aid programmes manager, British Red Cross said: "First aid is an essential life skill for children to have. Up to 85 per cent of pre-hospital deaths from road accidents could be prevented if basic first aid were administered before the emergency services arrive. With this campaign, we are calling for children to ‘be someone’ and learn first aid."

Toyota GB’s Marketing Director, Mark Hall said: "We are delighted once again to be supporting the Red Cross with the Don’t Be A Bystander campaign. Toyota bears a

particular responsibility toward road safety and our backing of this campaign reflects these values and is in line with Toyota’s ultimate goal of reducing road traffic accidents, deaths and injuries to zero."

Roadshows will be taking place on beaches, in shopping centres, in town squares and at theme parks around the country throughout the summer and are designed to teach children five simple steps to roadside first aid, which will enable them to save the life of someone injured in a road accident.
