Flybe has announced a brand new route between Edinburgh and Knock that will operate three times a week starting April 19th, 2011 with fares on sale now from £29.99 one way including taxes and charges at flybe.com.

Passengers now have a choice of 18 routes from Edinburgh on Flybe’s extensive Summer 2011 schedule including those to the Highlands and Islands operated by franchise partner, Loganair.

The new service provides the only air link between Scotland and Knock that, apart from opening up the scenic attractions of the West of Ireland, is also world-renowned for its Marion Shrine that is visited by over 1.5-million pilgrims every year.  It has also been welcomed by those living in the West of Ireland for allowing them the opportunity for convenient access to Edinburgh and to Scotland in its wider context, a popular destination for both business and leisure travel.

Mike Rutter, Flybe’s Chief Commercial Officer comments: “With this brand new route we’re not only  giving travellers the opportunity of booking low cost direct travel to one of Ireland’s most popular holiday and pilgrimage destinations but also giving the the opportunity for convenient and direct access to Scotland from the West of Ireland, a win-win for both economies.”

In welcoming today’s announcement, Joe Gilmore, Managing Director, Ireland West Airport Knock said: “The new route is a significant boost for flight access from the West of Ireland to the Scottish capital that is especially familiar to the thousands of Irish who travel over regularly for International and Heineken Cup Rugby matches. We have strong traditional links with Scotland and we look forward to welcoming thousands of Scottish visitors on the new service. We also look forward to it contributing to the development of business links between the two regions.”

Mr Rutter adds: “Despite the economic challenges of the past 12 months, Flybe has continued to expand its route network and we remain committed to providing the widest range of convenient and affordable regional services for our passengers. With flights available for booking now, we’d urge people to book early so they don’t miss out on the lowest fares possible.”
