Double triumph for Toyota engine innovation
Toyota has won two of the major categories in the highly regarded International Engine of the Year awards.For the fourth year in succession, the 1.5 litre petrol engine of the Hybrid Synergy Drive has been named ‘Best Fuel Economy’ for its application in the Toyota Prius. Hybrid Synergy Drive has won this category every year since it was launched in the second generation Prius in 2004.
In the same awards, the lightweight 1.0 litre, three cylinder engine from the Toyota Aygo has been named best sub 1.0-litre power unit.
Toyota is committed to powertrain innovation as a major contributor to its goal of establishing cleaner vehicles and the Hybrid Synergy Drive system is the leading advanced powertrain for production cars today. Toyota also continues to push the boundaries of conventional fuel, such as the light and powerful 1.0-litre petrol engine.
