MSN Cars has announced that the awesome Audi R8 Spyder is the winner of the seventh annual MSN Cars Car of the Year award.

With a top speed of 194mph and the ability to go from 0 to 62mph in 4.1 seconds, the iconic Audi roadster roared to the top of the annual poll on MSN Cars.  Users were asked what their favourite car of 2010 was, and 43,648 people placed their vote.

The R8 Spyder collected 7,771 votes – or 18% of the total.  The car was followed by two homegrown rivals in second and third place:  the new Jaguar XJ, with 9% of the total, and the new four-door Aston Martin Rapide – on 7%.

Tom Evans, Content Manager of MSN Cars commented: “We love the R8 here at MSN Cars, and so do all our users.  The coupé version of this car won the award back in 2008, and I am not at all surprised to see the R8 coming back for more with its stunning open-top Spyder derivative.  Many congratulations to Audi for creating this very special supercar, and indeed for having two other cars in the top 10.”

On accepting the award Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi UK, added: “We set a great deal of store by awards like MSN’s Car of the Year because they genuinely reflect public passion for a car – we’re delighted that the R8 in its latest form has inspired so many readers to propel it back up to the hotly contested top spot for 2011.”
