This week a milestone in the regeneration of the Norris Green area of Liverpool was marked when Liverpool City Council Leader, Joe Anderson attended the hand over of the 152nd new home to be built for Cobalt Housing by house builder New City Vision.

New City Visions’ M.D. Don Craven handed over the keys first six homes in the new third phase of its Ellergreen development to Cobalt Housing’s M.D. Alan Rogers and Cy Powell, Director of Regeneration. A further 20 homes are to be completed for Cobalt Housing late summer in the £3m scheme part funded by the Homes and Communities Agency.

Councillor Joe Anderson had expressed an interest in the properties whilst visiting Cobalt’s offices on 24 February. The invitation to see the energy efficient family homes was readily accepted.

Cllr. Joe Anderson said: “It is very satisfying to see the delivery of good quality, affordable housing. The area formally known as the Boot Estate is being transformed into a new and highly desirable residential community. The quality and space in the homes is really impressive and the energy efficient heating system will mean that the homes are economical to run, an important consideration with the rising costs we are all facing.”

The new homes incorporate highly efficient air source heat pumps for their heating and hot water. The technology converts ambient air temperature in to heating and delivers lower running costs with a 30-50% saving in CO2 emissions when compared to traditional boilers.

Alan Rogers of Cobalt said: “We are pleased that the redevelopment of the Boot Estate is another success story for the Norris Green area.”

New City Vision’s Don Craven added: “ The shortage of supply of new homes was highlighted in February when the Government figures confirmed that completions of new homes in England hit an all time low in 2010. The hand over of these and later homes to Cobalt Housing is good news for Liverpool and good news Norris Green. New City Vision is bucking the trend and delivering more new homes to meet the demand.”

New City Vision are also offering a choice of 2, 3 and 4 bed homes with the Government backed HomeBuy Direct, shared equity scheme. People that qualify for the scheme could own a new home for just 70% of the cost now. Full details are available from the marketing suite on Utting Avenue East, L11.
