When Mr Cohen (74) moved in to McCarthy & Stone’s Blackwood Court retirement living development more than three years ago, he had no intentions of giving up his active and sociable lifestyle. In fact, he wasted no time at all and joined the site’s residents’ committee and is involved in organising regular outings and events for all the retirees to enjoy.
Mr Cohen explains: “The lifestyle at Blackwood Court is simply fantastic; everyone here is nice and friendly. Being on the residents’ committee keeps me busy as I love arranging days out and events that I know the residents will appreciate and thoroughly enjoy. These include trips to the theatre, opera nights, inviting local guest speakers to the development and regular coffee morning gatherings. It gives us a real opportunity to socialise; I doubt anyone at Blackwood Court feels lonely when there is always something going on.”

When my wife died, it made sense for me to continue with the move to Blackwood Court and I have no regrets,” added Mr Cohen.
“I’ve got one of the biggest apartments at the development and can you believe during the recent big freeze, I didn’t have to put my heating on because the whole place is well insulated. Plus I benefit from being on the middle floor.”
