Samsung unveils Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9

Samsung has announced two new additions to its family of Galaxy Tab devices - a redesigned Galaxy Tab 10.1 and a brand new device, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 - which will be the world’s thinnest mobile tablet measuring just 8.6 millimetres.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be the thinnest mobile tablets available for each screen size. The Galaxy Tab 10.1, which was first unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February, has been redesigned so it is now available in two versions – the original which was 10.9mm thick, and the new model announced today which has a thickness of 8.6mm. Featuring Samsung’s crystal clear WXGA TFT LCD, the redesigned Galaxy Tab 10.1 weighs 589grams whilst the Galaxy Tab 8.9 comes in at 470grams.
Supporting network speeds of up to 21Mbps and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity, the new Galaxy Tabs are well equipped to deliver fast mobile download speeds and reduce data transfer time. Both devices also include a 1GHz dual core application processor which makes for a powerful multimedia and web browsing experience. Featuring Android’s tablet-optimised operating system, 3.0 ‘Honeycomb’, Samsung has created two new devices that are powerful, fast and lightweight.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 are pre-loaded with Samsung’s Readers Hub and Music Hub, providing instant access to more than 2.2 million books, 2000 newspapers in 49 languages, 2300 magazines in 22 languages, and 13 million songs. Soon after becoming available in store, owners of both devices will also be able to access a special tablet version of Samsung’s Social Hub, which aggregates email, instant messaging, mobile contacts, calendar and social network connections into a single interface. A 3 megapixel rear and 2 megapixel front camera are available on both of the new Tabs which allow 1080p HD video and Flash playback.
Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “Following the success of our first 7 inch tablet device and the growing popularity of Android, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 are the latest examples of Samsung’s ongoing innovation in this market. We are demonstrating our dedication to designing premium tablets that will deliver exciting new user experiences and lead the tablet market in the months and years to come.”
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 now join the original 7-inch device to provide a range of tablets for consumers to choose from and select the mobile tablet experience that best fits their needs. Combining the Tabs’ ultra-thin form, lightweight design and speed make the Galaxy Tab 10.1 the perfect device for sharing and enjoying videos, movies and games, and there’s even stereo surround-sound speakers and support for Flash 10.2. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is the perfect device for mobile professionals, whether they’re writing emails on a business trip or reading an ebook on the sofa after a long day at work.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 8.9 will both feature an industry leading suite of solutions designed to give enterprise customers and IT managers more security. Developed in collaboration with industry-leading partners including Cisco, Sybase, SAP and Citrix, Samsung's enterprise mobility solutions will provide flexibility and connectivity for mobile workforces, allowing for more efficient operability whilst on–the-move.
Samsung’s entire line of Galaxy Tabs will be on display at the Samsung booth (#2440) at CTIA Wireless 2011, March 22 through March 24.
