How much pressure do you feel today as a modern parent? From feeding our children the right food, to dressing them in the latest fashions to ensuring academic brilliance it can feel like a constant battle to keep up not just with the Jones but the Camerons, the Redknapps and the Beckhams too.

In the end is all we really want for our children to be happy?

New research out today by Start-rite shoes reveals that modern parents are feeling pressures from all angles. Perhaps this is unsurprising when 28% of us feel that our children are a direct reflection of us.

From birthday parties and fashionable clothing to getting our children into the right schools, we are forever feeling the competitive shadow of fellow parents. Those with daughters said they felt particularly under pressure to perform.

Yet the research shows that it is in fact younger parents that feel the greatest pressure for their children to perform well academically; particularly those in London who said they see academic achievement as the most important factor to ensuring their child fits in with their peers. Nonetheless our priority is still our children’s happiness with 42% citing the emotional development of our children as our key concern.

What do you think?

Well this is your chance to have a say. Start-rite shoes are launching a new webTV series especially for mums – by mums. ‘Mums Half-Hour’ launches this summer and will be covering everything from news, fashion, education, sport and health to all other parenting issues.

The first episode will be kicked off by a celebrity mum before handing over to you – the mums of Britain – to have your say and take part in the Mums Half-Hour panel.

If you have something to say, and are a mother of a school-age child they want to hear from you!

If you think you have what it takes to be a live-studio panel member, please go to mumshalfhour.co.uk and tell them why. You may be a regular mummy blogger or frequently give advice to other mums at the school-gate, either way, register your interest for a chance to be a part of this exciting new series.

For mums that aren’t quite ready for your time in the spotlight, you can still get involved. Not only will you be able to watch the show from the comfort of your home at a time suitable for you, but you’ll be given a chance to interact with it too by sending comments and questions directly to the panel in studio. You’ll even have a chance to win a year’s supply of Start-rite shoes just by tuning in!
