House builder Miller Homes has transformed the way teachers, parents and students can commute to Hilton Primary School in Newcastle thanks to providing a much needed new 2350 sq ft car park extension.

Developer Miller Homes has donated its time and resources to construct a new tarmac car park at the school, which is located near its Greenvale Park development, providing an additional 18 parking bays to the existing 15 bays for all 380 students and staff.

Working with subcontractor Ashwood Building and Civil Engineering Ltd, Miller Homes developed the car park in the February half term holiday, so it was ready for the teachers when they returned to work.

Hilton Primary School head teacher Shirley Davison said: “We are so very grateful to Miller Homes for offering to co-fund and construct a new car park at our school. We previously had a huge issue with limited car parking facilities that caused us no end of problems.

“Parents’ evenings were a logistical nightmare for parking. Our new car park is therefore very gratefully received by not only teaching staff but also our neighbours and local community.”

Miller Homes commercial manager Andrew Finnigan said: “We have flattened an unused grassed area in the school ground and constructed a new car park with a tarmac finish and white-lining to increase the amount of parking, as staff and visitors previously had to park outside the school in front of houses and on curb sides.

“We are focused on not only building homes but also better communities and with our new Greenvale Park development being located so close to Hilton Primary School, we felt it was very important to work in partnership with the school and build a strong relationship.

“As our new housing development is designed for young families, we are sure that it will inevitably bring fresh students to the school and therefore proving the school with better car parking facilities was an important issue for us. This is all part of our customer care strategy and ensuring we build houses that are part of a sustainable community and homes for life.”

Other companies that have contributed material and plant are Holystone Ltd and Northumbrian Roads Ltd.
