Early interest helps shape new Belgrave family homes

21st April 2011 Print

A brand new development of 70 family homes in the Belgrave area of Leicester is already proving popular amongst potential purchasers with Westleigh New Homes receiving over 150 enquiries already, despite construction work not commencing until later this year.

Not only that but interested homebuyers have actually helped to shape the design of the development on Ross Walk, which is off Belgrave Road and is the second phase in the ongoing redevelopment of the former British Union Shoe Machinery (BUSM) works, with house types altered to match this early demand.

Of the 72 three-, four- and five-bedroom properties planned for Phase Two at the 30-acre site aside the River Soar, construction work will begin on the first 14 homes later this summer, with these expected to be available in 12 months time.

These new homes will include two and three storey layouts and will form terrace townhouse street scenes for the greatest visual impact. Parking courts will be created to the rear of homes to minimise their influence on the street scene and also to maximise privacy and security.

Robert Orr, from Whetstone-based Westleigh New Homes, comments, “The second phase of redevelopment at Ross Walk will see a range of contemporary new family homes built, offering variety and flexibility for all different situations. Such has been the early level of interest here that we’ve been able to speak to potential homebuyers to find out their requirements and have changed certain house types accordingly. We also expect a number of off-plan reservations, so advise homebuyers to register their interest with us now to avoid disappointment and be kept up to date with timescales, prices and specifications as more information becomes available.”

Development of the site at Ross Walk is taking place in four phases, with phase one recently concluding after 119 new affordable homes were built in partnership between Westleigh, Leicester City Council, the Homes and Communities Agency, two housing associations and landowners Trafalgar Global Ltd. Once complete, the entire project will comprise 1,200 homes, six play areas for children, shops, cafes, commercial units and a nursery, as part of the Abbey Meadows regeneration area project.

Westleigh New Homes builds contemporary new homes across the Midlands from its base in Leicester and designs homes and specifications with modern lifestyles in mind. It ensures its new homes embrace existing buildings, styles and materials, whilst also ensuring the build has a minimal impact on the local environment.
