Half-term fun for all the family with Countryside 2011
If you’re looking for great ways to keep the kids busy during half term, then Countryside 2011 could be just the answer.
It’s the final countdown to this two-week super showcase, packed with country-based activities, attractions and events taking place across the South East from 28 May to 12 June – all designed to get us up, out and enjoying the great outdoors.
With everything from country shows, campfire cookouts, birds of prey adventure days and bug hunts to boat trips, train rides, tree climbing and farm workshops, there’s plenty to keep the whole family happy every day of the week, whatever your age, interests and energy levels.
The campaign’s dedicated website, countryside2011.org.uk, features more than 700 choices in nine counties, many of which can be enjoyed free of charge. The website also has lots of special discount and offer vouchers that can be downloaded, tips and ideas for fun days out, plus the chance to enter some great competitions.
Get up close and personal with molluscs at a snail festival, put your mountain boarding skills to the test, learn how to drive heavy horses or make a kite, or take a cycle ride through glorious woodland. Go jet-skiing on a fresh-water lake, or maybe discover the art of building a camp fire and shelter.
If you fancy something a little more sedate, try your hand at fishing, learn how to sculpt with willow, visit a traditional working water mill, or simply enjoy a relaxing guided walk through beautiful countryside. There really is something for everyone!
