SEAT is celebrating not one but two highly significant award wins for the newest member of its range: the practical Alhambra MPV.

The Spanish car maker’s exceptionally flexible seven-seater is today named best MPV by both Diesel Car and Fleet World – bringing the SEAT’s tally of key national awards to four.  And that total is all the more impressive considering the car only made its UK debut in November last year.

The latest honours join important ‘gongs’ from influential online title Carbuyer.co.uk and consumer motoring ‘bible’ What Car? – both of which named the Alhambra their MPV of the year.

Its latest pair of victories sees the new Alhambra praised for its flexibility, value for money and quality.

Nick Andrews, SEAT UK’s Head of Fleet and Business Sales was today collecting the Alhambra’s trophy for Best MPV in the 2011 Fleet World Honours.  The presentation took place at a special celebration in the historic Royal Automobile Club on London’s Pall Mall.

Fleet World Editor Steve Moody said: ‘SEAT’s new Alhambra does everything an MPV should.  It is priced right, has seven adaptable seats and a pair of sliding doors, meaning that it can do any task asked of it.

‘And, aside from the more workmanlike aspects of its job, it is also stylish and robust with a range of usefully efficient engines and comfort features.’

The Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers, service companies and individuals who have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved excellence in their sector.

The judging panel is chaired by Steve Moody, Editor of Fleet World, and includes Ken Rogers, Natalie Wallis, John Kendall, Alex Grant and Ross Durkin from the Fleet World editorial team.

Meanwhile, awarding the SEAT its Best MPV crown Diesel Car Editor Ian Robertson said: ‘It looks stylish, packs in plenty of space for seven people and a load of kit, and is as practical as they come.’

Specialist motoring title Diesel Car is this year celebrating its 23rd anniversary.  It focuses on the diesel car market but also includes reports on alternatively fuelled and eco-friendly vehicles.  The well-respected magazine boasts a long list of established and influential writers and contributors who deliver the latest news on, and insights into, the diesel car market.

Welcoming the Alhambra’s brace of award wins, SEAT UK Managing Director Peter Wyhinny said: ‘Scooping these two important awards in a single day is yet another indicator of just how good our new seven-seater really is.

‘I’m especially pleased to see that its impressive qualities have been recognised by specialist titles in both the fleet and diesel sectors, and I’m sure the fast-growing band of happy Alhambra owners will agree with the judges’ verdicts.’

Available in S, SE or top spec’ SE Lux trim and priced from just £22,815 RRP, the award-winning Alhambra is offered with a choice of modern turbocharged petrol or diesel powerplants.  All engines can be paired with either a crisp six-speed manual or smooth six-speed DSG auto that offers the extra flexibility of sequential manual operation via the standard-fit steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts.
