Crafty tasty treats set for heritage-rich Lincolnshire

16th May 2011 Print

Historic Lincoln will be offering some tasty treats this weekend when the best of regional food is showcased next to centuries-old heritage crafts.

A first-of-its-kind event being staged in the heart of historic Lincoln brings together two of the city’s top attractions for a one day celebration featuring unique skills and crafts from across the UK and Europe.

For the first time Lincoln Castle and Lincoln Cathedral will combine to offer a joint ticket giving access to both ancient buildings for the ‘1,000 Years of Traditional Crafts’ event on Saturday 21st May.

And the county’s food heritage will also be part of the celebrations with Tastes of Lincolnshire food stalls and food demonstrations around the medieval cobbled streets of the city’s Castle Square.

Some of the county’s top food producers will be offering the best of local food and drink as well as offering a sample of flavours from across Lincolnshire in the free-to-enter food area nestling between the two main event venues, Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle.

On display in special areas across both those sites will be experts demonstrating traditional crafts ranging from stonemasonry to thatching and stained glass window making to blacksmith skills.

Joining specialist Lincolnshire stonemasons who use ancient skills to maintain the magnificent 1,000-year-old Lincoln Cathedral will be craftspeople from the UK, France and Norway. Visitors will also get the chance to ask questions while watching them work – and even have a go at some of the skills.

Helping to make the event a family day out, there will be hands-on activities in the children’s marquee, giving youngsters a chance to get their hands dirty too!

Tickets: Adult (18yrs +) £11.00; Child (5 - 18) £4.75; Concession (Retired or Student) £8.50); Family (2 Adults 2 Children) £28.00. Advance online saver deals also available via the website.
