Subaru UK, the All-Wheel drive experts, have teamed up with the Houghton International horse trials once again in 2011, with this year’s extravaganza set to be the biggest and best yet.

Over 340 top competitors will be battling it out at the Norfolk-based event, with a total purse of £20,000 up for grabs. Now in its fifth year, the challenging 5.5 kilometre course features a daunting 112 jumps.  It requires a voluntary workforce of more than 320 people, 10 Subaru support vehicles and almost 17 kilometres of cordon to keep everything running smoothly.

It is anticipated that a record-breaking 12,000 spectators will observe the action over the four days, and Subaru owners will be able to take advantage of a 50 per cent discount on the cost of entry. Once inside, visitors will find 60 trade and food stalls located in the grounds, including several static Subaru vehicle displays.

Set in the stunning surroundings of Houghton Hall near the Sandringham estate, the three-day event is scheduled to take place between 26 and 29 May. Event organisers have managed to secure the attendance of several of the world’s top riders, including 2011 Badminton winner Paul Tapner and local rider Piggy French who secured second place at this year’s Badminton event.

Subaru UK Marketing Director, Kenyon Neads, said: “Our nationwide involvement with UK eventing continues with the Houghton International.  We at Subaru believe there’s a real affinity between the cars we sell and people who enjoy active outdoor pursuits, just like eventing. Those who get involved at all levels of this sport appreciate the practicality and go-anywhere versatility of our vehicles, and many are already loyal Subaru customers.”
