Five years after Benton Brothers made its first investments in Mercedes-Benz trucks, the three-pointed star now accounts for well over half of the vehicles on the high-profile Lincolnshire haulier’s 108-strong fleet.

Latest to arrive via the Boston branch of dealer H&L Garages are 27 premium specification Actros 2544 tractor units with MegaSpace cabs.

They have replaced an earlier batch of Mercedes-Benz, among them the original 12 Actros tractors which Benton Brothers bought from the same dealer in 2005.

Managing Director Martin Benton said: “We have continued to enjoy excellent performance from the vehicles and the dealer ever since, which explains why Mercedes-Benz has steadily grown its share of our fleet.

“Fuel economy and driver appeal are the most important criteria when we come to purchase new vehicles and the Actros scores highly on both counts.

“It has proved consistently economical and reliable, while the flat-floored MegaSpace cabs are very popular with our drivers. They may be away from home for up to four nights per week so appreciate being able to move around in comfort, as well as all of the extra storage space.

“The support we receive from H&L is first-class too,” he continued. “Our vehicles are always serviced overnight which allows us to maximise uptime, and any issues are always dealt with quickly and efficiently.”

Family run Benton Brothers was founded in 1908 and moved to its current base at Sibsey, near Boston, 60 years later – the firm also has a depot in Immingham and this year opened a new site in Grantham. Its trucks are on general haulage work, delivering containers and palletised loads all over the UK. In 2008, to celebrate its centenary, the company switched from its historic red to an eye-catching silver livery that was so well received it has been used ever since.
